Stephane Pompougnac

Hailed as the icon of new French sophistication, Stéphane Pompougnac has mythologised Hotel Costes in the consciousness of music lovers the world over. In the early days his fascination for music led him to play across the pop, rock, new wave spectrum. In the ’80s he discovered house, a genre that changed his musical landscape. Stéphane’s creative vision came of age when asked by Jean-Lou Costes to mix music at his hotel.

His music soon became intrinsic to the Hotel Costes’ experience, epitomising its grace, spreading its mystery. Stéphane shared the Costes allure with the world with the release of the first of what have since become nine volumes bearing the Hotel’s name.

The Hotel Costes series embodies a fairy tale of time and place, of Parisian nights inhabited by beautiful people. They are bench mark releases, the reference for all the ‘places compilations’ that have been released ever since.

Referred to as an ‘urban neo-aristocrat’ in Italy, the ‘French signature DJ’ in England, and Hotel Costes’ little Prince turned ‘Baroque Olympus’ in Germany. Stéphane transcends cultural nuances with his impeccable style.

Today he is DJing at Gucci, hopping from Bristol where he plays at Massive Attack’s open bar, to Rio, working with Madonna (he remixed ‘What it feels like for a Girl’) Whirling Nicole Kidman at Cannes for the release of ‘Moulin Rouge’ or performing at Cameron Diaz’s restaurant in Miami, the Bamboo bar. Mixing jet lags and forever between planes, Stéphane Pompougnac is never still, forever deconstructing his performance bringing new surprises to every venture.
