Natalie is a wonderful soprano who recently made her debut at Welsh National Opera, playing the lead of Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel. She understudied for Yum-Yum in the ENO’s acclaimed production of The Mikado and her vast repertoire means that she can adapt herself to any event, accompanied either by an orchestra, piano or performing as a solo artist.
On the 2015 English National Opera Squad Tour, she sang Papagena in The Magic Flute and Yum-Yum in The Mikado. She also appeared in Death in Venice for Garsington Opera and sang in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. Recent covers for English National Opera include Marzelline in Fidelio, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Papagena in The Magic Flute and Zenna Briggs in the world premiere of Sunken Garden by Michel Van der Aa. Natalie also covered Jemmy in Rossini’s William Tell at WNO and Vixen in Příhody lišky Bystroušky for Garsington Opera in 2014. Natalie sang Papagena for ENO’s Opera Squad Education tour in 2012 and 2013 and first sang Papagena (and covered Pamina) for Diva Opera and sang the role again recently with Opera Project.
As a debut solo artist in Prom 23 at the Royal Albert Hall Proms, The Times critic Hilary Finch noted the “wide awake, beautiful soprano voice of Natalie Montakhab.” Natalie has sung as soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Peer Gynt Suite), the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Bartok’s Village Scenes) and for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Nicholas McGegan (Dido and Aeneas).
